Intermediate 2D Animator
Job Overview:
As an Intermediate 2D Character Animator, you will play a key role in bringing characters to life with high-quality animation that adheres to the show's style and standards. You will handle a range of shots, including more complex or technically demanding ones, while maintaining scene continuity and delivering polished work. Clear communication, strong problem-solving, and efficient workflows are critical in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create high-quality 2D character animation that meets the production’s quality and output requirements.
- Animate a variety of shots, including complex character interactions and dynamic sequences.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the show's unique style, ensuring consistency across shots.
- Achieve shot approvals efficiently with minimal repeated notes.
- Keep files and workflows organized and adhere to studio standards.
- Maintain scene continuity across sequences, contributing to the overall coherence of the production.
- Address series-wide animation notes and implement them as needed.
- Identify and communicate larger issues in assets, rigs, or animation processes to Leads or Supervisors.
- Work collaboratively with the team to solve problems and meet deadlines.
- Have a strong understanding of the pipeline and related software and contribute to optimizing the team’s workflows for improved efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in 2D character animation, preferably within an animation studio or episodic production environment.
- Strong understanding of 2D animation principles, including timing, spacing, posing, acting, and character performance.
- Proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony or other industry-standard 2D animation software.
- Ability to animate a variety of shots, including complex character interactions, acting sequences, and dynamic movement.
- Strong understanding of maintaining character, style, and scene continuity across a production.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply creative direction and series-wide animation notes.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and communicate issues with assets, rigs, or animation workflows.
- Good understanding of 2D animation pipelines and production workflows.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain clean, properly structured files and meet production deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Animators, Leads, Supervisors, and other departments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to receive and incorporate feedback effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently while maintaining a high standard of quality.
This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement.

The wage range for this role reflects compensation across all of ICON’s projects. The final salary will be determined based on the specific position, the current show assignment, and the applicant’s experience and portfolio. This range accounts for varying levels of experience and responsibilities.
