Audience Research Worksheet
Answer these 9 questions across 3 sections. The more specific your answers, the better your content will connect.
Who They Are
Get specific about who your ideal audience member is and where they spend time.
What They Want
Understand their problems, language, and desired outcomes.
What They Engage With
Study what content actually gets reactions, not what you think should work.
The Language Mirror Method
Use your audience's exact words in your content. When someone says "I feel stuck" in a comment, your next post should use "feeling stuck" not "experiencing a plateau." Mirroring their language creates instant connection because it signals you understand their experience, not just their problem. The "exact words" field above is the most important one in this worksheet.
Platform Growth Tactics
Rate your priority for each platform from 1-5. Focus on 1-2 platforms, not all 7.
| Platform | Primary Growth Lever | Key Engagement Signal | My Priority (1-5) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reels + Explore page discovery | Saves and shares | ||
| YouTube | Search + suggested videos | Watch time and click-through rate | |
| Comments + reposts from connections | Comment depth and dwell time | ||
| Twitter/X | Replies and quote tweets | Retweets and bookmark saves | |
| TikTok | For You page algorithm | Watch completion and replays | |
| Twitch | Raids + community networking | Concurrent viewers and chat activity | |
| Podcast | Guest appearances + cross-promotion | Downloads and subscriber retention |
Community Retention Scorecard
Rate yourself 1-5 on each of the 6 retention pillars. Your lowest scores reveal where your community loses people.
Do you publish on a reliable schedule with consistently useful content?
Do you acknowledge individual community members by name in content, replies, or shoutouts?
Do you engage your audience between posts (stories, community posts, emails, Discord)?
Do you respond to comments, ask genuine questions, and create content based on audience input?
Does your community have a name, inside jokes, shared values, or a sense of belonging?
Do your community members interact with each other, not just with you?
The Real Metric That Matters
2,000 engaged community members who open every email, comment on every post, and buy what you create will always outperform 200,000 passive followers who scroll past your content. Growth without retention is a leaky bucket. Fix retention first, then scale acquisition.
