Content Marketer job description

About Us

We’re Compound, a content and creative services agency focused on helping founders and companies use content to drive real business outcomes.

Our core focus is executive-led content on LinkedIn. We develop brand and content strategies that clarify positioning, strengthen authority, and drive results across hiring, audience growth, and pipeline.

We help our clients turn their expertise into compelling content. We’re looking for a Content Marketer to help us do the same for Compound.

About the role

You’ll own the day-to-day execution of Compound’s marketing, building a consistent content process that moves from idea to publication.

That means proactively developing ideas, gathering input from our CEO, drafting newsletter and LinkedIn content, and coordinating the external partners supporting our marketing—including our YouTube agency. Your work will help Compound publish consistently and grow its audience without depending on the CEO to drive every step.

A key part of your job is staying tapped into the conversations happening on LinkedIn and X. You’ll spot emerging topics, interesting debates, and questions our audience is asking, then develop original angles that connect those conversations to Compound’s expertise.

Initially, our CEO will oversee strategy and provide direction and feedback. As you develop a deeper understanding of our audience, positioning, and business, you’ll take on increasing ownership of marketing strategy.

You might have 2–5 years of experience, or you might be earlier in your career with strong writing samples and the ability to learn quickly. We care more about the quality of your work, your judgment, and your follow-through than a specific number of years.

What you’ll do

Develop content ideas

  • Stay close to the discourse on LinkedIn and X, particularly around B2B marketing, content, and executive branding.

  • Identify emerging conversations, audience questions, and opportunities for Compound to contribute a useful perspective.

  • Bring a steady flow of original ideas for newsletters, LinkedIn posts, and YouTube videos.

  • Develop specific angles and hooks that connect timely conversations to our audience’s interests and Compound’s expertise.

  • Pull ideas from internal conversations, client work, recordings, and agency insights.

Draft newsletter content

  • Turn ideas and insights into useful, engaging newsletter drafts.

  • Develop subject lines and openings that give readers a reason to keep reading.

  • Incorporate feedback and prepare polished content for approval and publication.

  • Maintain a consistent newsletter schedule.

  • Develop and test ways to turn our social audiences into newsletter subscribers.

Create LinkedIn content for Compound’s executives

  • Draft posts that reflect each executive’s voice, perspective, and expertise.

  • Proactively gather input through conversations, recordings, and notes.

  • Turn rough ideas into clear posts with strong hooks and specific takeaways.

  • Coordinate reviews and revisions to keep content moving toward publication.

  • Use audience feedback and content performance to refine future topics and formats.

Manage external partners and YouTube execution

  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for vendors and agencies supporting Compound’s marketing.

  • Manage our YouTube agency relationship, keeping briefs, deliverables, feedback, and timelines organized.

  • Partner with the agency on video ideas, titles, thumbnails, and publishing plans.

  • Review deliverables for alignment with Compound’s voice, audience, and goals.

  • Review YouTube performance with the agency and recommend improvements that grow the channel.

Own the marketing workflow

  • Maintain the content calendar and manage drafts, approvals, and deadlines across channels.

  • Make it easy for the CEO to contribute expertise and provide feedback through an organized, repeatable process.

  • Follow up on outstanding input and approvals, flag obstacles early, and keep work moving.

  • Find opportunities to repurpose ideas across LinkedIn, the newsletter, and YouTube.

  • Track performance, identify what’s working, and recommend what to test next.

  • Gradually take on more responsibility for content planning and marketing strategy as your understanding of the business develops.

Outcomes you’ll be responsible for

  • Consistent marketing execution: Build a reliable publishing process that requires progressively less day-to-day coordination from the CEO.

  • Newsletter subscriber growth: Grow a relevant subscriber base through useful content, effective promotion, and reasons for readers to share.

  • LinkedIn audience growth: Grow the audiences of Compound’s executives through consistent, relevant content with a clear point of view.

  • YouTube audience growth: Drive channel growth by managing our YouTube agency, strengthening content ideas and packaging, and turning performance insights into action.

Across channels, the goal is to attract an audience relevant to Compound’s business and build relationships that can lead to future clients and referrals.

What we’re looking for

  • Approximately 2–5 years of experience in content marketing, writing, communications, or a related role. Candidates with 1–2 years of experience and strong work samples are encouraged to apply.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. You can make an idea clear, find an interesting angle, and cut unnecessary words.

  • Strong content instincts. You can explain why a topic matters, what makes an angle interesting, and why someone would stop to read or watch.

  • An active interest in the conversations happening on LinkedIn and X. You follow relevant voices and can distinguish a useful content opportunity from a passing trend.

  • Writing samples that demonstrate your ability to create engaging content. Newsletters and LinkedIn posts are especially relevant.

  • An ability to capture someone else’s voice and turn rough ideas into a cohesive draft.

  • Initiative and follow-through. You bring ideas, identify what needs to happen next, and move work forward without waiting for detailed instructions at every step.

  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with clear communication across teammates and external partners.

  • Comfort receiving feedback, reviewing performance, and adjusting your approach.

  • A desire to grow from owning marketing execution into taking on greater strategic responsibility.

Experience growing a newsletter or social audience, coordinating agencies or freelancers, or working on a YouTube channel is a plus.

Compensation and logistics

  • Experience: Typically 2–5 years; open to candidates with 1–2 years and strong work samples.

  • Compensation: 75,000–95,000 USD per year.

  • Location: US or Canada.

  • Reports to: CEO.
