TEGNA is creating a statewide news operation by bringing together teams in Phoenix and Tucson to build a stronger content organization serving viewers across Arizona. We are looking for MMJ Reporters based in Tucson to be part of a dedicated Southern Arizona news team serving our Tucson stations while also contributing to statewide coverage across our Phoenix and Tucson broadcast, streaming, digital and social platforms. This reporter will cover breaking news, enterprise stories, major community issues and the people shaping Tucson and Southern Arizona. They will be deeply connected to the Tucson community while working as part of one collaborative Arizona newsroom serving audiences across both markets. This is an opportunity for an enterprising journalist who wants to help build something new: a truly statewide local-news operation with strong local teams in both Phoenix and Tucson.
Job summary
The MMJ Reporter will be based in Tucson and serve as a key member of our Southern Arizona content team. This person will report, shoot, write and edit compelling journalism for our Tucson and Phoenix broadcast, streaming, digital and social platforms.
The successful candidate will work closely with fellow reporters, photographers, producers and newsroom leaders in Tucson and Phoenix as part of one coordinated statewide content operation. They will be expected to develop original story ideas, build trusted sources, deliver compelling live reports and ensure the issues and communities of Southern Arizona are strongly represented across our coverage.

Responsibilities:
•    Cover live breaking news, enterprise stories, major community issues across our Tucson and Phoenix newscasts and platforms
•    Collaborate daily with newsroom teams in both Tucson and Phoenix as part of an integrated statewide content operation
•    Report, shoot, write, edit and produce impactful content for broadcast, streaming, digital and social platforms.
•    Own and develop original story ideas rooted in Tucson and Southern Arizona that are relevant locally and statewide
•    Build deep relationships and trusted sources throughout Southern Arizona
•    Deliver clear, confident and conversational live reports in planned coverage and breaking-news situations
•    Serve as a regular live presence across our Tucson and Phoenix newscasts and digital/streaming platforms, delivering clear, confident and conversational live reports in planned coverage and breaking-news situations
•    Use social media and digital tools to discover, research, verify and share news content.
•    Uphold our newsroom standards for accuracy, fairness, urgency and compelling storytelling.

Requirements:
•    2 years of reporting experience preferred.
•    Proven ability to shoot, write, edit and produce strong broadcast and digital stories independently.
•    Demonstrated ability to deliver polished, engaging live reports daily, including during breaking news.
•    Strong news judgment, writing ability, ethical decision-making and attention to accuracy.
•    A track record of generating original story ideas and building trusted sources in a community.
•    Comfort working independently in the field while collaborating closely with a larger newsroom.
•    Ability to work quickly, calmly and accurately under deadline pressure.
•    Experience using social media and digital platforms for newsgathering and audience engagement
