Lead Motion Designer job description
About the Role
Hinge Health is building an expressive and scalable motion language across brand, product, marketing, and digital experiences. As Lead Motion Designer, you will shape how complex ideas become clear, compelling stories that help people move beyond pain and get back to doing things they love.
You will lead multi-channel, multi-platform motion initiatives from creative direction through final delivery. You will partner with creative directors, designers, writers, editors and business stakeholders to turn briefs into high-quality work that is distinctive, on-brand, audience-aware, and connected to business goals.
This is an individual contributor role. You will provide craft leadership, ideation, and mentorship without direct people-management responsibility.
What you’ll accomplish
In your first 3 months
Build strong working relationships across Brand, Creative & Content, Marketing, and other key partner teams.
Develop fluency in Hinge Health’s brand expression, assess production workflows, and creative review processes.
Take ownership of priority motion projects and establish a clear vision, scope, timelines, and decision paths.
In your first 6 months
Define and evolve Hinge Health’s motion principles, standards, and quality bar in partnership with creative and cross-functional leaders.
Lead complex motion projects across brand campaigns, product videos, website, paid and organic channels, presentation decks and digital touchpoints.
Develop multiple concepts and guide work through storyboards, style frames, animatics, visual effects, editing and final delivery.
Present creative strategy, concepts, work-in-progress, and final recommendations to senior stakeholders, connecting creative decisions to audience and business goals.
In your first year
Build reusable templates, workflows, and self-serve tools that improve consistency, efficiency, and quality for the Video, Content and Production team.
Become a trusted motion design expert and thought partner for complex, ambiguous initiatives across Product Marketing, Commercial, Growth, and other functions.
Mentor motion designers and creative partners through clear feedback, coaching, and hands-on collaboration.
Lead complex, high-visibility work across multiple channels, platforms, products, or business functions.
Who you are
A craft leader who can move fluidly between creative strategy and hands-on execution, remaining close to the work and its details.
A strategic storyteller who can simplify complex product, clinical, technical, or business concepts into clear and engaging motion.
A systems thinker who enjoys building motion principles, templates, workflows, and production practices that help teams create better work at scale.
A confident cross-functional partner who can facilitate creative discussions, synthesize feedback, give clear direction, and drive alignment.
A learn-it-all who continues to advance their craft, explores new methods, and shares practical learnings with the team.
An owner who makes sound decisions amid ambiguity and remains accountable for quality, timelines, and outcomes.
A collaborative teammate who raises the creative bar, supports others’ growth, and embodies Hinge Health’s leadership principles.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years of professional experience in motion design, video, editing, or a related creative discipline.
A portfolio demonstrating strong motion craft, conceptual thinking, visual storytelling, animation, and production judgment.
Advanced understanding of motion principles, including timing, pacing, easing, eye trace, tension and release, and visual hierarchy.
Experience leading creative work from brief through final delivery, including storyboards, style frames, animation, visual effects, and final output.
Experience building or improving motion systems, templates, production workflows, and standards that help teams work more effectively.
Advanced proficiency in motion design and production tools, including Figma, Final Cut Pro, Cinema 4D, Rive, or equivalent tools.
Curiosity about AI-enabled creative tools and the judgment to use them responsibly while protecting quality, originality, accuracy, and brand integrity.
