Job Description

About the role 

Giving back to the communities we work in, and those our customers serve, is a core part of how Version 1 delivers value. Our work has won a Princess Royal Training Award, and our social value framework holds a Silver Social Value Quality Mark accreditation.  

This is a specialist role for someone who is passionate about and understands both content writing and social value. Working within our commercial function and alongside our ESG team, you will own the development of evaluated social value responses. You will translate Version 1's established and evolving social value programmes, partner network, workforce initiatives and delivery evidence into compelling, compliant and measurable bid commitments aligned to customer priorities. 

What you'll do 

• Analyse tender documentation to identify social value evaluation criteria, including the UK Government Social Value Model, Model Award Criteria (MACs), Social Value Portal TOMs and customer-specific frameworks. 

• Lead the development of high-scoring social value responses for public sector bids, ensuring full compliance with evaluation criteria and word limits. 

• Work with the ESG team, presales, delivery teams, HR and Talent colleagues to gather evidence, performance data and delivery plans. 

• Translate Version 1's social value programmes, partnerships and workforce initiatives into contract-specific quantified commitments that are measurable and deliverable. 

• Maintain and develop the social value content library, ensuring responses are mapped to evaluation criteria, commitments, delivery evidence and scoring feedback. 

• Own the commitments register, recording every commitment submitted, associated KPIs and reporting requirements. 

• Support the continuous improvement of our social value proposition by identifying successful themes, reusable content and emerging policy requirements. 

• Work with AI-assisted drafting tools to improve efficiency while maintaining responsibility for the accuracy, quality and evidence behind every submission. 

• Stay current with UK procurement policy and social value guidance, National Procurement Policy Statement requirements and best practice across the public sector. 

• Support driving awareness of Social Value and deliver training across Version 1. 

Qualifications

Essential: 

• Knowledge of the UK Government Social Value Model, Model Award Criteria (MACs), Social Value Portal and National TOMs Framework.  

• Proven experience writing and reviewing evaluated bid responses, ideally for UK public sector procurements. 

• Strong understanding of competitive tendering and scoring methodologies. 

• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, persuasive content to strict deadlines.  

• High attention to detail and a commitment to evidence-based writing. 

• Experience interpreting customer requirements and converting them into structured, compliant and compelling commitments and responses.  

• Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working with subject matter experts. 

• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities. 

• Experience using AI-assisted content development tools within a regulated or quality-controlled environment. 

• Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.  

Desirable:  

• Familiarity with social value reporting and impact measurement. 

• Understanding of employability, apprenticeships, skills development, community investment or ESG programmes.  

• Experience developing quantified social value commitments and associated KPIs.  

• Understanding of Shipley or APMP writing-to-score principles. 

• Proficiency in AI-enabled research and drafting.
