What does a Video Editor do?

A Video Editor takes raw footage and transforms it into finished video content across formats including short-form social clips, long-form brand narratives, and performance-driven ads. Day-to-day work involves cutting and assembling footage, syncing audio, applying colour grades, adding motion graphics or text overlays, and delivering exports optimised for specific platforms. Editors collaborate closely with creative directors, social media managers, and videographers to ensure the final cut aligns with brand guidelines and campaign objectives. In social-focused roles, the pace is high and output volume is significant, with a strong emphasis on hooks, pacing, and platform-native formats such as Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.

Key responsibilities

  • Cut and assemble raw footage into coherent, on-brand video edits
  • Sync, mix, and clean up audio including music, voiceover, and sound effects
  • Apply colour correction and colour grading to footage
  • Add motion graphics, captions, lower thirds, and text overlays
  • Export and optimise deliverables for specific platforms and aspect ratios
  • Manage and organise media assets and project files
  • Collaborate with creative and social teams to iterate on edits based on feedback
